Dr. Thomas M. Wheeler is board certified in anatomic & clinical pathology and cytopathology from the American Board of Pathology. A highly esteemed figure in surgical pathology and cytopathology, with a multitude of specialties, most notably in urologic and thyroid diagnostics, Dr. Wheeler served as a member of the Board of Governors for the maximum of two three-year terms for the College of American Pathologists (2003- 2009). He chaired the nominating committee twice, the Federal and State Affairs committee, and the Council on Scientific Affairs. He also served as the President of the Texas Society of Pathologists, the Texas Society of Cytology, and the Houston Society of Clinical Pathologists.
With over 350 published works, Dr. Wheeler has expressed a long-term interest in clinicopathological correlations, including evaluating biomarkers in prostate carcinoma. Dr. Wheeler earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and continued with advanced training from Baylor College of Medicine’s (BCM) affiliate hospitals. Prior positions included serving as Senior Vice Chair for the W.L. Moody, Jr. Faculty Practice Pathology Group, Distinguished Emeritus Professor and Immediate Past Chair of the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine, and Member of the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at BCM.
