Histology Technician (PT), Houston, TX


  • Perform histological procedures on tissues.

  • Perform histological preparations.

  • Maintain logs and prepare regular and special reports on procedures for specific tissues.

  • Ensure that laboratory equipment and supplies are clean and sterile and maintain the cleanliness of the laboratory.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Follow the guidelines related to HIPPA, designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of PHI.

  • Promote a culture of safety for patients and associates through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment.

  • Perform troubleshooting measures that concern the Histology Lab.

  • Perform the duties of a Certified Histologist such as cutting and preparing slides for H&E staining, special stains, and IHC stains. This also includes troubleshooting and correcting problems appropriately.

  • Maintain a flexible schedule to fill shift vacancies and accommodate schedule to meet department needs.

  • Perform proficiency tests through CAP.

  • Perform Continuing Education (CEU) credits.

  • Perform and maintain daily equipment Quality Control Forms.

  • Help maintain supplies with open/receive dates.

  • Help keep laboratory organized and neat.

  • Demonstrate skills in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot.

  • Demonstrate ability to take and follow directions.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress, deadline driven environment.



  • High School / G.E.D and a minimum Associates Degree or equivalent required.

  • 1-3 years of directly related experience preferred.

  • Certification/registration as a Histology Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a clinic/medical office/lab setting.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required sit for extended periods of time, perform repetitive body motions, and lift office supplies/lab materials up to 20 pounds.
