ASCO is governed by a Board of 20 members, including a President-Elect, President, Chair of the Board (seat to be filled starting in 2019), Treasurer, Past President, and 14 Directors. The ASCO Chief Executive Officer and the Chair of Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation Board of Directors have non-voting seats on the ASCO Board. The Society conducts the majority of its business through various volunteer groups comprised of members who volunteer their time and effort to Society programs. Leaders of patient advocacy groups are often active in our volunteer groups as well. There are currently 20 standing committees (plus numerous editorial boards, task forces, panels, and working groups) that are managed and supported by ASCO’s full-time staff. ASCO is a charitable, educational, and scientific organization classified under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
